I am extremely concerned about the recent rallies Gov. Palin has been holding. The blatant bile and hate coming from the crowd and being fomented by Palin herself is absolutely despicable. Running negative campaigns is one thing but to tap into emotionally charged rhetoric knowing that it will raise the crowd's blood pressure is another.
She twists truth to incite hate. Telling crowds Obama pals around with terrorists is ridiculous. When Ayers was a terrorist Obama was 8 years old. Ayers is currently a professor a the University of Illinois.
I personally don't want a person anywhere near the White House that has the ability to stir such hateful feelings. Extremist speakers are pressure cookers that heat up negative emotions and unless controlled will explode and do more harm to society than good. Think of all the extremist speakers you can and tell me how many of them have actually made their societies better?

So if Mr. William had been a more recent terrorist would that make her comments more legitimate? Has he ever said he was sorry for bombing the pentagon? If Osama Bin Laden changed his ways, would it be OK for me to party with him 20 years from now?
What a person did five years ago versus 30 years ago is different. Mr. Ayers is now a contributing member of society and someone obviously sees him as fit to educate young adults in a university setting.
I think the bigger picture issue is the negative campaigning that does intentional serious harm, rather than good, to the political process. It turns the American people into a constituency that responds more to hate and fear mongering rather than a constituency that trusts a candidate to make positive change. This is the danger of electing people who would turn to such extreme negativity.
John Lewis denounces “atmosphere of hate”
Congressman John Lewis, a hero of the civil rights movement, strongly criticized the atmosphere of hate at McCain-Palin rallies, which has included shouted name-calling and threats by attendees. Lewis said:
“During another period, in the not-too-distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace who also became a presidential candidate. George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights.
“Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama.”
“As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Senator McCain and Governor Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all. They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy.”
